Lip Filler 101: What to Expect Before, During & After Your Appointment

Full, balanced lips don't have to mean an overfilled or unnatural look. At Jected by Josie, my philosophy is simple: enhance what you already have. The goal is to create lips that fit your face, preserve your unique features, and leave people wondering why you look so refreshed — not what you had done.

Whether you're considering lip filler for the first time or looking for a provider whose aesthetic aligns with a more natural approach, here's everything you need to know.

My Approach at Jected by Josie

Every face is different, and every set of lips deserves an individualized treatment plan. I believe that beautiful results come from respecting your natural anatomy rather than chasing trends.

During your consultation, we'll discuss your aesthetic goals, your facial proportions and lip anatomy, any previous filler treatments, and the best product and technique for your desired outcome.

My focus is on creating soft, natural-looking volume with improved symmetry and balance, enhanced lip definition, and better harmony between the lips and the rest of the face. Sometimes the most beautiful result isn't making the lips dramatically bigger — it's creating subtle changes that complement your features.

How to Prepare for Your Appointment

A little preparation can help minimize bruising and make your experience smoother. If medically appropriate, consider avoiding the following for 3–7 days before treatment:

Be sure to let me know if you have a history of cold sores (you may benefit from preventative antiviral medication), any allergies or medical conditions, previous filler treatments, or any upcoming major events.

Planning tip: Schedule your appointment at least 2 weeks before weddings, vacations, or special occasions to allow for healing and final settling.

What to Expect During Your Appointment

Your comfort is a priority. After discussing your goals and reviewing your treatment plan, a topical numbing agent may be applied to help minimize discomfort. The procedure itself typically takes about 30–45 minutes, including consultation and photography.

During treatment, I carefully place filler to build shape, support, and volume while maintaining a natural appearance. Many patients describe the sensation as mild pressure or a quick pinch — and most are pleasantly surprised by how tolerable the procedure is.

Healing & Downtime

Lip filler requires very little downtime, but swelling is a normal part of the process.

The First 24–48 Hours

You may experience swelling, mild bruising, tenderness, and temporary asymmetry due to inflammation. This is completely expected and does not represent your final result.

Days 3–7

Swelling gradually improves, and the lips begin to soften and settle.

Two Weeks

Most patients can appreciate their final result around the two-week mark, once residual swelling has resolved. Because everyone heals differently, some people experience minimal swelling while others may notice more pronounced inflammation for a few days.

Aftercare

For the best results, I recommend:

If you have any questions during the healing process, I encourage you to reach out. Patient education and support are an important part of my practice.

Natural Results Take Time

One of the biggest misconceptions about lip filler is that more is always better. In reality, the most elegant outcomes are often achieved gradually. Building volume over multiple appointments can create a softer, more refined look while preserving the natural movement and shape of the lips.

My goal is never to make your lips look like someone else's — it's to create the best version of your own.

Is Lip Filler Right for You?

Lip filler may be a great option if you want to add subtle volume, improve lip symmetry, enhance lip borders and definition, restore fullness lost with age, or create better balance and facial harmony.

The best treatment starts with an honest conversation about your goals and a customized plan designed specifically for you. At Jected by Josie, I believe aesthetic medicine should enhance your confidence while keeping you looking authentically you. Beautiful results are not about changing your face — they're about creating balance, softness, and natural-looking refinement that complements your unique features.
