Most patients are pleasantly surprised by how manageable the discomfort is. We use a topical numbing cream before every lip treatment, and most modern fillers like Juvéderm and Restylane contain lidocaine (a local anesthetic) built right in, which further numbs the area as we inject.

On a scale of 1–10, most patients describe the sensation as a 2–4. The whole treatment typically takes under 30 minutes, so any brief discomfort passes quickly. Many of my clients come in on their lunch break and head straight back to the office.

Lip fillers typically last 6–12 months, though this varies by patient. Factors that affect longevity include your metabolism, the specific filler used, how much was injected, and your lifestyle habits (smoking and intense cardio can break down filler faster).

With regular maintenance appointments, many patients find their results actually last longer over time as the filler builds subtle collagen support in the lip tissue.

This is one of my core philosophies — natural results, every time. I study your unique facial anatomy, lip shape, and proportions before touching anything. The goal is always to enhance what you already have, not to create something that looks "done."

During your consultation, we'll look at reference photos together and I'll walk you through exactly what I plan to do and why. You're always in control of the outcome.

You can expect some swelling and possibly minor bruising for 3–7 days after your appointment. Swelling is most significant in the first 24–48 hours, so don't be alarmed if your lips look more dramatic immediately after treatment.

By day 7–14, the filler has settled and you'll see your true results. I recommend avoiding intense exercise, alcohol, and blood thinners for 24 hours before and after your appointment to minimize bruising.

Yes — this is one of the greatest benefits of hyaluronic acid fillers. If you're unhappy with your results for any reason, the filler can be dissolved quickly and safely using an enzyme called hyaluronidase. Results reverse within 24–48 hours.

That said, in my years of practice, dissolutions are very rare when we have a thorough consultation beforehand and set clear, realistic goals together.

Both Jeuveau are neuromodulators that relax muscles to smooth dynamic wrinkles. The main differences are in onset time and spread. Dysport tends to kick in a bit faster (3–5 days vs. 5–7 for Botox) and may diffuse slightly more — which can be an advantage for larger areas like the forehead.

Which one is right for you depends on your treatment area, anatomy, and goals. I'll recommend the best option during your consultation.

Jeuveau typically last 3–4 months for most patients. With consistent treatment over time, many patients find they need fewer units and their results last longer, as the muscles become conditioned to staying relaxed.

I recommend scheduling a maintenance appointment before your results fully wear off to stay ahead of the wrinkles.

The frozen look comes from over-treatment or poor placement — not from Jeuveau itself. My approach is always conservative and strategic. I use the minimum effective dose placed precisely to soften lines while preserving your natural expressions.

You should still be able to raise your eyebrows, smile fully, and show all your emotions. People shouldn't be able to tell you've had anything done — they should just think you look refreshed.

Common treatment areas include: forehead lines, frown lines (11s), crow's feet, brow lift, lip flip, bunny lines, chin dimpling, jaw slimming (masseter), neck bands (Nefertiti lift), and excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis).

Most injectable treatments have minimal to no downtime. Botox patients typically return to normal activities immediately. Filler patients may have mild swelling or bruising for a few days, but this is easily covered with makeup after 24 hours.

I recommend avoiding strenuous exercise, alcohol, and excessive heat (saunas, hot yoga) for 24 hours after any injectable treatment. I'll give you a full personalized aftercare guide at your appointment.

When performed by a qualified, licensed medical professional, aesthetic injectables have an excellent safety record. All products I use are FDA-approved hyaluronic acid fillers and neuromodulators.

As a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC), I have advanced training in facial anatomy, injection technique, and complication management. Your safety is always my first priority — which is why I only perform treatments I feel are appropriate for your individual anatomy and health history.

To minimize bruising and swelling, I recommend avoiding the following for 24–48 hours before your appointment:

• Alcohol  • Blood thinners (aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E)  • Intense exercise the day of  • Topical retinoids on the treatment area

Yes — always. Every single treatment at Jected by Josie is performed personally by me, Josie Deason FNP-BC. I never delegate injections to assistants or other providers.

Certain individuals are not ideal candidates for injectables, including those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have certain neuromuscular disorders, are allergic to any filler ingredients, or have active infection or inflammation at the intended treatment site.
